    Quick question

I'm working on the proofreader test and was wondering how much freedom a proofreader has to change how the original translation says something. Obviously not changing the meaning, but if the translator used an awkward word, so split something into two sentences that flows better in one...would it be okay to use my best judgement?

    For example:
That year, Kung Fu. Is the original translation. I changed it to this: That year, I encountered Kung Fu.

In order to become a PR, does one have to know both English and the language being translated, or just English?
